Custom dog clothes: made to your dog's measurements

In short: made to measure means the piece is cut for one particular dog instead of the dog being fitted into a ready size. On every product page, in the “Size” block, there is a “Custom size” option: it adds 15% to the price of the model, and the production time stays the same — 3–6 business days. We need three measurements: back length, chest girth and neck girth, and the chest girth is the one that decides the size. Once the order is placed, our manager contacts you to confirm the numbers. The standard Feel with Fill range is XS–XL, chest girth 27–51 cm (10.6–20 in): if your dog falls outside those limits or is built differently from the average, made-to-measure is the only way to get clothes that actually fit. One thing to know before you order: made-to-measure items cannot be exchanged or returned.

What made to measure means in our workshop

Feel with Fill is not a warehouse of ready-made clothes. We draft our own patterns and sew in our own workshop in Kyiv, Ukraine, so every order passes through our seamstresses' hands. The difference between a standard size and a made-to-measure piece is simple: for a standard size we cut to our XS–XL size chart, and for a custom size we cut to the three numbers taken from your dog.

This is not an alteration shop and you never have to bring the dog anywhere. You send the measurements, we cut the piece to them and ship the finished item. If the model you want happens to be in stock in your size, we ship sooner — so it is sometimes worth asking the manager about availability first and only then deciding whether you need a custom size at all.

Made to measure is available for every model in the catalogue — from a bandana or a T-shirt to a padded jumpsuit. It is not a separate “bespoke” line, but an option on the product page that you can add to any item.

Which measurements we need for a custom size

We need three numbers. All three are taken from a dog that is standing — not sitting, not lying down:

  • Chest girth — the key measurement. It decides whether the piece will sit comfortably, and it is the first thing we look at when choosing a size.
  • Back length — it sets where the piece ends and whether it will pull when the dog moves.
  • Neck girth — needed for the neckline, the hood and the collar.

Height at the withers is not needed for clothes: our size chart does not use it. The withers matter only as a starting point, because that is where the back length is measured from. When a breed description gives you “the dog's height”, that is the withers height, and it has nothing to do with choosing a size of clothing.

We do not use the dog's weight either. Two dogs of the same weight can have completely different chests and different body lengths, so weight tells you nothing about how a piece will fit. The full chart with all three measurements, in centimetres and inches, is on the size guide page.

How to measure your dog at home

You will need a soft tape measure — the kind tailors use. A rigid metal tape will not work. Stand the dog square on a level surface: it has to be on all four legs, not sitting and not lying down, because in a sitting position both the chest and the back are measured wrong.

  • Back length. Put the tape on the base of the neck (the withers — the highest point of the back, above the shoulder blades) and run it along the spine to the base of the tail.
  • Chest girth. Take the tape around the widest part of the chest, usually just behind the front legs. If your dog is fluffy, do not pull the tape tight: it should lie on the coat rather than press it down.
  • Neck girth. Measure at the base of the neck, where the collar normally sits.

Write the numbers down as they came out — no “room to grow”, no rounding down. The ease is built into the pattern by us, and a second allowance on top would make the piece too big. If your dog is still growing, tell us separately: puppies follow their own sizing logic, which we explain in “Clothes for a puppy”.

If you cannot manage the measurements yourself, that is not a reason to postpone the order. Just place it, and the manager will help: they will explain how to measure, or suggest a size based on the breed and the build.

How much a made-to-measure piece costs

A custom size costs 15% more than the standard size of the same model. There are no other surcharges — not for a difficult build, not for a breed, not for extra measurements. The uplift is always the same: 15% of the catalogue price of the model.

A few worked examples:

  • a hoodie at $38 becomes $43.70 in a custom size;
  • an anorak at $35 becomes $40.25;
  • a fleece jumpsuit at $52 becomes $59.80;
  • a polo shirt at $19 becomes $21.85.

The uplift is calculated from the price of the model, so promotions and promo codes work exactly as they do for standard sizes. Creating an account gives you 10% off your first order: the personal code appears in your account right after you sign up.

Production time for a custom order

3–6 business days — the same as for a standard size. Individual measurements do not make the order slower: the pattern is adjusted at the cutting stage, and that adds no days to the sewing.

The clock starts when the payment arrives. For cash-on-delivery orders within Ukraine it starts from the UAH 300 prepayment. If anything delays your order in the workshop, we tell you in advance rather than on the day it was due to ship. The full terms are on the Shipping & Payment page.

Standard sizes have one extra scenario: if the piece you want is already in stock in your size, we ship it faster than 3–6 days. A custom size has no such shortcut by definition — the piece is cut from scratch for your dog.

Which models can be made to measure

Any model in the catalogue. Below are the categories and their standard-size prices, to which the 15% custom-size uplift is added:

Colour is a separate kind of custom order. The product page lets you pick one of the colours available for that model; if you need a shade that is not in the list, that is a unique order and the manager will agree the terms with you. An item in a non-standard colour, just like a made-to-measure item, cannot be exchanged or returned.

Which dogs need a custom size

Standard patterns are drafted for an average build. The further a dog's proportions sit from that average, the more likely a ready size will fit imperfectly: the piece will press on the chest, or sag on the back, or end too soon. These are the cases where made to measure usually makes sense.

  • A long body. A dachshund has a long back with a fairly modest chest (roughly 35–45 cm): the size that fits the chest turns out too short along the back.
  • A wide chest with a short back. That is the french bulldog (chest girth roughly 50–70 cm) and the pug (48–60 cm, plus a short neck). For both breeds we recommend made to measure by default.
  • A deep chest on short legs. The welsh corgi — chest girth 55–70 cm with a low-set body.
  • A deep chest and a narrow waist. The italian greyhound: 35–45 cm around the chest, but a body shape that a standard pattern fits poorly.
  • Dogs bigger than XL. The beagle (50–65 cm), the medium poodle and the cavalier king charles spaniel (45–55 cm) often run past XL — compact individuals take XL, the rest need measurements.
  • Dogs smaller than XS. A toy terrier measures 24–33 cm around the chest: below 27 cm even XS is too big.
  • Mixes. In a crossbreed the size cannot be guessed from the breed, so measuring is always necessary. The same goes for cavapoos (40–51 cm) and similar designer mixes.
  • Dogs between two sizes. If the chest girth lands on the overlap of two sizes — say 35–36 cm, where S meets M — a custom size settles the question for good.

Approximate sizes for twenty popular breeds are collected on the “Dog clothes size by breed” page, and small breeds have their own guide, “Small dog clothes”. The breed, though, is only a hint about where to start: the measurements decide.

Dogs that fall outside the XS–XL range

Our standard range covers dogs with a chest girth of 27–51 cm (10.6–20 in) and a back length of 21–45 cm (8.3–17.7 in). In full:

  • XS — chest 27–32 cm (10.6–12.6 in), back 21–25 cm (8.3–9.8 in), neck up to 22 cm (8.7 in);
  • S — chest 31–36 cm (12.2–14.2 in), back 26–30 cm (10.2–11.8 in), neck up to 26 cm (10.2 in);
  • M — chest 35–41 cm (13.8–16.1 in), back 31–35 cm (12.2–13.8 in), neck up to 30 cm (11.8 in);
  • L — chest 40–46 cm (15.7–18.1 in), back 36–40 cm (14.2–15.7 in), neck up to 34 cm (13.4 in);
  • XL — chest 45–51 cm (17.7–20.1 in), back 41–45 cm (16.1–17.7 in), neck up to 38 cm (15 in).

If the chest girth is under 27 cm or over 51 cm, a custom size is needed. The same applies when the back length is under 21 cm or over 45 cm. We do not keep a separate ready-made line for large breeds: everything beyond XL is sewn to measure.

Numbered sizes are another common situation. Dog clothes are sometimes labelled with a number — 12, 14, 16, 18. That number is the back length in centimetres, so it is easy to check against our chart: 21–25 cm is our XS, 26–30 cm is S, 31–35 cm is M, 36–40 cm is L and 41–45 cm is XL. Sizes 12, 14, 16 and 18 are all shorter than our smallest back length, so a dog that small is sewn for to measure. And remember that a number on another maker's label is only a hint: our sizing is driven first by the chest girth, so check both measurements.

How to order a made-to-measure piece step by step

Everything happens on the site — there are no extra forms to fill in.

  • Step 1. Choose a model in the catalogue.
  • Step 2. In the “Size” block on the product page, pick “Custom size” instead of XS–XL. A note appears next to it: “To sew the piece to your dog's measurements, our manager will contact you shortly.”
  • Step 3. Choose a colour from the options available for that model.
  • Step 4. Add the item to the cart, or use the “One-click order” button if you would rather be called back.
  • Step 5. Place the order. Within Ukraine you can pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, or choose cash on delivery with a UAH 300 prepayment. From abroad, leave your phone number or WhatsApp in the comment field: online card payment on the site currently works with Ukrainian cards only, so the manager agrees the payment method with you individually.
  • Step 6. The manager contacts you — in English for international orders, within one business day — to confirm the three measurements, the total and the shipping cost. If you have already measured your dog, just read out the numbers.
  • Step 7. We sew for 3–6 business days and dispatch the order by the shipping method you chose.

If you would rather discuss the measurements before ordering, write or call: see our contacts — info@feelwithfill.com, +380 93 379 40 82, Instagram @feel.with.fill. The manager will also tell you whether you need a custom size at all; quite often a standard one is enough.

Payment and shipping for a custom order

Within Ukraine you can pay online by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay (payments go through monobank), or choose cash on delivery with a UAH 300 prepayment and settle the rest when you collect the parcel. The carrier's cash-transfer fee is paid by the customer, and if a cash-on-delivery parcel is never collected the UAH 300 prepayment is not refunded, because it covers the delivery costs.

Inside Ukraine we ship with Nova Poshta — to a branch, a parcel locker or by courier — as well as with Ukrposhta or another carrier, at the carrier's rates paid on receipt. Orders from UAH 4,000 (the amount after discounts and promo codes) are delivered within Ukraine free of charge. You can also collect the order from our workshop at 18/1 Pavla Tychyny Ave, Kyiv, 02152, by appointment, Monday to Friday, 10:00–18:00.

We ship worldwide with international carriers, from Ukraine, and delivery usually takes 1–2 weeks depending on the country. Shipping is paid by the customer at the carrier's rates, and the manager confirms the exact cost before dispatch. Free delivery from UAH 4,000 applies within Ukraine only, not to international orders. We do not ship to russia or belarus.

Exchange and returns for made-to-measure items

This is the one thing to settle before you order: items made to individual measurements, and items in a non-standard colour, cannot be exchanged or returned. The reason is simple — such a piece is created for one specific dog and cannot be sold to anyone else. That is exactly why we never sew to measure on guesswork: the manager always gets in touch and checks the numbers with you before cutting.

For standard XS–XL sizes the usual rules apply: exchange or return within 14 calendar days of receiving the order. We accept an item if it has kept its original look, shows no signs of wear, stains or damage, has not been washed or used for photo or video shoots, and still has its original packaging and all tags.

  • Return shipping is paid by the customer — within Ukraine you can use Nova Poshta's Easy Return service.
  • We refund the money within 5 business days after the return reaches us, using the same method that was used for payment; for cash-on-delivery orders, to your bank card.
  • On an exchange, the new item is sent within 7 business days after the return arrives at our workshop.
  • If an item has a manufacturing defect, or you received the wrong item, we pay the shipping both ways.
  • Minor differences between the photo on the site and the item, and damage caused by incorrect use, are not grounds for a return.

The full terms are on the Exchange & Returns page, and other practical questions are answered in our FAQ.

Why order a custom size from Feel with Fill

Feel with Fill is a Ukrainian dog clothing brand with its own production, founded in 2023. The name honours our dog Felix, called Fil at home, which is also how it is pronounced — “feel with fill”. We create the designs and the patterns ourselves, choose the materials and sew in our own workshop in Kyiv: that is precisely why we can cut to specific measurements instead of only to a ready chart. More about the brand.

Prices for dog clothes run from $19 for a polo shirt to $79 for the padded “Gossip-puffer” jumpsuit, with bandanas from $10; a custom size adds 15% to the price of the model. If you are still deciding what to order, our guides help: does my dog need clothes and in what weather, winter dog clothes and how to wash and care for dog clothes, so a piece made to measure lasts.

Frequently asked questions about custom dog clothes

How much does it cost to have dog clothes made to measure?
A custom size costs 15% more than the standard size of the same model. A hoodie at $38 comes to $43.70 in a custom size, an anorak at $35 to $40.25, and a fleece jumpsuit at $52 to $59.80. There are no other surcharges.

Which measurements do you need to make dog clothes to order?
Three: chest girth, back length and neck girth. The chest girth is the key one, because the fit depends on it. Height at the withers and the dog's weight are not used for sizing.

How long does a made-to-measure piece take?
3–6 business days, the same as a standard size. The clock starts when the payment arrives; for cash-on-delivery orders within Ukraine, from the UAH 300 prepayment. If anything delays the order, we tell you in advance.

Can a made-to-measure item be returned or exchanged?
No. Items made to individual measurements, and items in a non-standard colour, cannot be exchanged or returned, because they are created for one specific dog. Standard XS–XL sizes can be exchanged or returned within 14 calendar days if the item has kept its original look and its tags and packaging.

Do you make clothes for large dogs, bigger than size XL?
Yes, to measure. The standard range covers a chest girth of 27–51 cm (10.6–20 in); for bigger, smaller or unusually built dogs we sew to your dog's own measurements. There is no separate ready-made line for large breeds on the site.

Can every model in the catalogue be made to measure?
Yes, every one: from a $10 bandana to the $79 “Gossip-puffer” padded jumpsuit. The “Custom size” option sits in the “Size” block on each product page.

How do I order if I do not know my dog's measurements?
Place the order anyway — the manager will then contact you, explain how to measure your dog and help you decide. You can also write to us first: info@feelwithfill.com, +380 93 379 40 82 or Instagram @feel.with.fill.
