How to wash and care for dog clothes
In short: dog clothes are best washed gently — in cold or warm water up to 30 °C (86 °F), inside out, with zips and hook-and-loop fastenings closed, using a mild detergent without bleach. Dry flat, away from radiators and direct sun. Down-filled and membrane pieces should not be spun at high speed or tumble dried. Always follow the care label if it says something different.

General rules
• Close zips, snaps and hook-and-loop fastenings before washing so they do not catch the fabric.
• Brush the hair off with a brush or a lint roller before washing.
• Choose a mild, lightly scented detergent: dogs have a sensitive nose and skin.
• Do not over-dry clothes on a radiator or in direct sun — fabrics can shrink or fade.
• Store seasonal pieces clean and dry.
How often to wash
Outerwear (anoraks, jumpsuits) — as it gets dirty: after a walk in slush it is often enough to dry the piece and brush it. Knitwear worn next to the coat (hoodies, turtlenecks, T-shirts) — roughly once every 1–2 weeks of wear, or when it starts to smell.
At what temperature should I wash dog clothes?
Mostly up to 30 °C on a delicate cycle. Linen and cotton can be washed at 30–40 °C unless the label says otherwise.
Can I tumble dry dog clothes?
Better not: membrane, fleece and knitwear can lose their properties or shrink. Dry flat at room temperature.
Can I use fabric softener?
Not for fleece and membrane — it spoils their properties. For cotton and knitwear, a minimal amount without a strong scent.
Should I wash new clothes before the first wear?
For pieces worn next to the body it is a good idea. The “Drying Robe” we recommend washing before first use.
