Corgi clothes: sizing, winter jumpsuits and made-to-measure fit
In short: Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh corgis are medium-sized dogs (usually 10–17 kg / 22–37 lb) with a long body, short legs and a deep, broad chest. An adult corgi’s chest girth is usually 55–70 cm (21.7–27.6 in), while the largest standard Feel with Fill size, XL, is cut for 45–51 cm (17.7–20.1 in). So for an adult corgi we recommend made-to-measure: +15% to the model price, 3–6 business days. Ready-made sizes mostly fit puppies. And the main job of corgi clothes is not so much warmth as keeping a low-slung belly out of slush, snow and mud.
Corgi clothes size: adult measurements
| Measurement | Adult corgi (approx.) | Feel with Fill size XL |
|---|---|---|
| Chest girth | 55–70 cm (21.7–27.6 in) | 45–51 cm (17.7–20.1 in) |
| Back length | 38–46 cm (15–18.1 in) | 41–45 cm (16.1–17.7 in) |
| Neck girth | 35–42 cm (13.8–16.5 in) | up to 38 cm (15 in) |
These figures are a guide, but the logic holds: in standard patterns the back length grows with the chest girth, while a corgi’s chest is much broader than a pattern allows for that back length. So an XL usually fits a corgi in length (41–45 cm) but is tight across the chest and under the front legs, and a piece scaled up to the chest would be far too long. The full size chart is on the size guide page.
Pembroke vs Cardigan: the difference for clothes
Both breeds have a double coat with a dense undercoat and sit low to the ground. The Cardigan is usually a little bigger and heavier (roughly 11–17 kg against 10–14 kg for a Pembroke), with heavier bone, a longer body and a long, bushy tail. The Pembroke is more compact, and some Pembrokes are born with a naturally short tail. For clothes the main difference is back length, which is usually greater in a Cardigan — so measure your own dog rather than going by the breed.
Which measurements to take
1. Chest girth — at the widest point, just behind the front legs. A corgi’s chest is deep, so run the tape through the lowest point of the ribcage. Do not pull it tight: the thick undercoat compresses easily and the piece would come out too snug.
2. Back length — from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.
3. Neck girth — where the collar normally sits.
Measure while the dog stands square.
When a corgi needs clothes
Not always for warmth. The dense undercoat insulates well, so a healthy adult corgi usually needs nothing in dry, light frost, and an over-warm layer can make an active dog overheat. The catch is height: the belly, chest and fluffy “trousers” on the hind legs are the first to pick up wet snow, de-icing salt and mud. After a walk like that the dog needs washing, and a thick undercoat takes a long time to dry. That is why the most useful thing for a corgi in slush is a water-repellent jumpsuit that covers the belly and legs.
Insulation really matters for puppies, senior dogs, dogs weakened by illness, and in hard frost with wind. More in our guides to winter dog clothes and whether your dog needs clothes.
What a corgi should wear in different weather
| Weather | What works |
|---|---|
| Drizzle, damp wind, +5…+12 °C | a fleece anorak to keep the coat dry and clean; a vest for a puppy or senior dog |
| Rain | the “Brooklyn Jacket” in water-repellent raincoat fabric |
| Slush, wet snow, de-icing salt | the “Heaven” jumpsuit in water-repellent membrane — covers the belly and legs |
| Dry frost down to −10 °C | an adult corgi usually needs nothing; a puppy or senior dog — a fleece jumpsuit or a puffer vest |
| Below −10 °C, wind | a fleece jumpsuit or the “Gossip-coat” fleece dog coat |
| After washing paws and belly | a drying robe so the coat dries faster |
Winter jumpsuit for a corgi: what to look for
• Covered belly and legs. This matters most for a corgi — the belly and chest are closest to the snow.
• Zip along the back. The fleece jumpsuit has its zip on the back, so it is easier to put on. Look after that long spine: dress the dog while it stands on all four paws, without lifting it by the front legs.
• Harness opening. On the “Heaven” jumpsuit it is hidden, and the hood is detachable.
• Room in the chest. Nothing should press under the front legs — corgis are busy, fast-moving dogs.
• Length to the base of the tail — no bunching over the croup.

Clothes for a corgi puppy
Corgi puppies grow fast until about a year old, and the chest can keep broadening after that. While your puppy’s chest still fits the standard range (up to 51 cm / 20.1 in), pick a ready-made size from the chart, checking the back length too; once it is bigger, switch to made-to-measure. Do not size up too much — a puppy trips over its legs in an oversized jumpsuit. Re-measure the chest every 2–3 weeks. More in our puppy clothes guide.

Frequently asked questions
What size clothes does a corgi wear?
An adult corgi usually has a chest girth of 55–70 cm (21.7–27.6 in), which is above the largest standard size XL (45–51 cm). So we sew to measure for adult Pembrokes and Cardigans; ready-made sizes mostly fit puppies.
Does a corgi need clothes in winter?
Not always for warmth — the dense undercoat does that job. In slush and wet snow, though, clothes keep the belly and legs dry and clean.
Which winter jumpsuit is best for a corgi?
For slush and wet snow, the “Heaven” jumpsuit in water-repellent membrane with a harness opening. For frost, the fleece jumpsuit with a zip along the back: fleece keeps the warmth in and does not soak through.
How much do made-to-measure corgi clothes cost?
15% more than the standard size: for example, the fleece anorak is $40, the fleece jumpsuit $60 and the “Heaven” jumpsuit $82. Production takes 3–6 business days from payment.
Can I return a made-to-measure item?
No — it is sewn for one specific dog and cannot be exchanged or returned. Standard-size items can be exchanged or returned within 14 days of delivery — see exchange and returns.
Do you have clothes for corgi boys and girls?
Yes, the cut is the same for boys and girls. Girls often get light-blue and milk-white shades and boys khaki, but colour does not change the fit.
